What will Lutsk look like in 10 years, in what direction is our city and we moving together, how can we impress tourists, and how can we earn money for the development of culture, education and urban space?

More than a hundred Lutsk residents were looking for answers to these questions during the City Development Forum held on Saturday, 28 May.

It is worth noting that this is the first event of this format in Lutsk. The city residents developed specific ideas and projects on their own, after which special volunteers – ‘keepers’ – systematised all the information and presented a rather short action plan for both the short and long term.

According to one of the organisers of the event, Mykhailo Voitovych, Programme Director of the Institute for Political and Information Studies, the ideas developed will not remain on paper, but will be passed on to the Centre for Strategic Planning of City Development at the Lutsk City Council.

‘This is the first public mass event in Lutsk to elaborate a city development strategy. I am convinced that today can be called the beginning of the development of this important document,’ said Mykhailo Voitovych.

The residents of Lutsk who participated in the forum will be able to apply for funding for their projects, assured another event organiser, Zakhar Tkachuk, chairman of the board of the NGO Youth Platform and head of the Volyn Youth Centre. ‘We are ready to support some projects with resources. Unfortunately, we will not be able to finance all of them. If these are the projects that were born here at the forum today, we want to finance them. These will be the same quick wins that were discussed here today,’ said Zakhar Tkachuk.
